The Five R’s of the Resistance:
- Resist: Protest on the streets, call senators and representatives, etc.
- Rebel: Run for office, GOTV (Get Out The Vote), support a progressive.
- Revolt: Change the laws, change the culture, build your communities.
- Rely: Trust that millions of others are fighting the good fight.
- Rest: Take care of yourself, we are in this for the long term.
WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
Watch for WineRev’s G&G notes in the comments to see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted in the past. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Tip: You can search for >>> in Roundups to quickly find his comments.
WineRev, last Sunday:
Ah Sunday, and the Good News Round Up has shambled along in and among the Prairie Tall Grass of Oklahoma! I am visiting cousins here in Tulsa (with OKC coming up) and yesterday two of us drove out to see the bison grazing around in a preserve north of town. Wonderful to see, the visitor’s center was up-to-snuff informative, and the docents (nicely attired, polite, but only 4 of them, so they were not-a-dozen decent docents ) were delightful. They reported the best guess/estimate is that this spring’s crop of new calves out there is around 500 newbies, great news for re-building a species away from extinction. YAY!
And there on the lonesome prairie also stands today’s Gnuville Ranch Breakfast Brunch, welcoming in Gnus arriving by foot, horseback, or glider, as well as via Internet. The coffee is hearty, just off that galvanized pot hanging over the campfire, the tea is perky, and the mocha-cocoas and mimosas carry extra flavor served open-air, open prairie (and most fortunately UP wind from the herds…..)
The Bunkhouse Lounge welcomes feet up and out from boots or from out of beds, bare-toed, be-socked, slippered, all wriggling in the pixel streams zinging around to and from your WiFi screens. So as the little harmonica starts playing a little wistful cowboy tune, enjoy the readings, add comments, recs, corrects, digressions and stir in some of your snickers and chuckles because that’s what all of us do to make the Good News newsworthy! Thank you 2thanks for getting us saddled up!
Arts & Culture
Duante Beddingfield, Detroit Free Press: More than 100 dancers gathered Saturday afternoon at the NFL draft in downtown Detroit's Cadillac Square for a live demonstration of the Tamia Hustle, a line dance that originated in the Motor City, set to “Can’t Get Enough" by R&B singer Tamia, a Windsor native.
Prior to the demo, city historian Jamon Jordan put the event into historical context. He referenced Detroit’s history in leading Black dance since the 1920s, dating to Paradise Valley and continuing through the Motown era, with the Hustle rising during the funk era of the ‘70s and ‘80s. He pointed to Stevie Wonder’s 1987 song “My Eyes Don’t Cry No More.”
“To this day,” Jordan said, “Detroit is the Hustle capital of the United States. Detroit is the No. 1 Hustle spot, the Hustle capital of the United States of America!”
For those who do not know, I live near Detroit.
Science
AKALib, Member of Daily Kos: JPL announced today that engineering data was successfully received from the Voyager 1 spacecraft on Saturday April 20, the first time since Nov 2023.
A new set of commands were sent on Thursday to relocate some code around a failed memory chip in the Flight Data System (FDS) computer and as expected that fixed the problem that had caused Voyager’s transmission to be stuck with sending a 0101... pattern since Nov 14, 2023.
Only engineering data (spacecraft health data) is being received. Successful reception of science data (data from its instruments) will require additional code relocation in the tight sparse free memory areas in the FDS. (NASA)
Voyager 1, launched more than 46 years ago, is 24.3 billion km away from earth; it takes light and comm. signals 22.5 hours to travel this distance.
Please share good science news with us! (Especially JSWT, health, environment.)
A good place to look for science news if you are waiting for the Sunday Roundup is the archive of Overnight News Digest. On Saturdays, the OND always focuses on science, though not all of it is devoted to what I would call Good Science News.
Need more good news?
… arhpdx posted a list of good news sites toward the top of a recent Roundup, or you can find that same list in my comment: Good News Sources. Thank you, arhpdx and Mokurai!

You can use the map’s zoom arrows to resize the view and focus on your pin to find neighbors. Please note that the Google Map, though convenient to operate, is visually inaccurate because, among other issues, it enlarges North America and shrinks Africa [Maps present a distorted view of the world by kos].

Found in the Image Library: A Snark Badge!
An image of wide badge or shield with four lines of text: (1) Two lines of text, sea green on a black background: "KOS / Standards & Practices.” (2) One line of very dark text on a sea-green background: “SNARK 5H50.” (3) One line of small and difficult to read text: “2007 - 2009." To the left of that last line is a silhouette of what appears to be the Brooklyn Bridge, and its curving roadbed arches over the last line of text.

Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 5 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind! Beginners, you are cordially invited to comment!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
