Standard disclaimer: Leave your loathing of meta, World of Warcraft, or community diaries outside. If you think we should be playing your MMO instead, start a guild and write a recruitment diary. Don't leave a comment here and then get all hurtful when it isn't received with flowers and candy. This goes double for people coming in to attack guildies over other diaries or comments - STAY OUT! Link to your recruitment diary is OK though. |
Standard advertisement: Wreck List is the Daily Kos World of Warcraft guild. We are Horde-side on the Garrosh server. We're getting close to the membership cap, so we'll have to put you on a waiting list if you want to join. To get on the list, read this diary and visit the Guild web site. Yes, you have to be Horde. No, you don't have to be hardcore - casuals, PvPers, and people that just want to hang out on guild chat are all welcome. |
More below the fold:
Something that came up yesterday that I wanted to talk about was this post on the Mary Sue from Brianna Wu, a video game developer and favorite target of GamerGate.
If you are triggered by violent threats, you're not gonna want to follow the link to the story. The TL;DR version is her talking about the harassment she receives, the steps she takes to diligently document death and rape threats for prosecution by the authorities and (twist ending!) how the authorities take that information and do absolutely nothing with it.
Oh, and by "authorities" I mean prosecuting attorney Ron O'Brien from Columbus, Ohio - the jurisdiction where one of the people threatening her lives.
Just throwing that out here. God knows I don't want any of our brave guildies to get tangled up with these GamerGate psychopaths - but on the other hand, I'm kinda surprised we aren't already.
So, on to the raid reports, then! First up we have Tvath with the Team Z report:
Team Z is making its way through Blackrock normal at a rather leisurely pace, because we wouldn't want any of the bosses to think we were ignoring them. Last Sunday we steamed through four bosses and then took a few pulls on the trains. We are really close! This week we're going to one-shot them, I just know it.
In "Stupid Things Tvath Did," we have last night's Team PM Highmaul run, which I missed because I lay down for just a quick nap before raiding. Three hours later ... ah well. Next time.

I'm glad Tvath was able to get a report in. I was not looking forward to writing the report where I died on nearly every boss and was completely useless.
Next we have Pamena's Team PM report:
Team PM report:
Team PM was hit with some sort of virus (real, not computer) Thursday night, that took out Swyft before he even logged in, and caused Baelz to have to give up pretty much in the middle of our attempt on Hanz and Franz. We were already short enough folks that more tries on heroic Gruul were not in the cards anyway, so we just took it easy, and did a few normal bosses. It shows that we have really learned these fights, though, as we got Kromog down with just 12 or 13 people, something we couldn't do a few weeks ago.
This week and next week, we've got more absences for real life stuff on Tuesdays and Thursdays in particular, plus people under pressure at work, so I suggested to the team that we try for a clear of heroic Highmaul, to get the Ahead of the Curve achievement for killing Heroic Imperator, and invite the rest of the guild to come with us. People liked the idea, so we cancelled Tuesday/Thursday for this week, and set up a heroic HM try for Wednesday night, and it worked pretty well. We did not get as far as I wanted to, mainly because of some hiccups on heroic Brackenspore, and other issues based on some people not knowing the fights except from LFR, but we did get the first 4 down. I really didn't want to cancel our normal runs for a second week, but I feel honor bound to offer the opportunity to guildies again to finish this off next Wednesday, so that's what we will do. We only have Twins, which should be no problem, and then Koragh and Imperator, which will be more difficult, to do for the achievement. I am asking people to please be familiar with the fights before you come thru videos and guides which are widely available - we will not have time to teach the fights to people if we're going to get these 3 down in 2 hours. Also, I will not bring alts this time - I'm happy to have Team Kaels folks join in, but for the last two fights in particular, we can't afford to have any low performing alts in place of high performing main toons.
In June, we will get back to heroic Gruul, and the rest of BRF on normal - summertime is always a period of high absenteeism as people travel for vacation and what not, but as we've enlarged our group to 18 (and I'm willing to bring more people IF they can do the required damage) so I'm hopeful we can keep going without further interruptions.

And we'll wrap it up with a Team Kaels report from Taymatt:
Last week Team Kaels was able to start on Heroic Blast Furnace progression. To date, we have one full night and two half-ish nights working on this encounter. For those who know the fight, we have gone with the "dps cooldown rotation" strategy to handle dropping the Primal Elementalists in phase II of the fight. It has worked pretty well for us; we have generally had to break the Primal Elementalist shields only once, and we have reached the final phase a couple of times after a relatively small number of pulls. The cooldown rotation we used was as follows: First Elementalist: everyone use their 2 or 3 minute cooldowns + one hunter stampede; Second Elementalist: everyone use their potions + another hunter stampede; Third Elementalist: bloodlust; Fourth Elementalist: everyone's 2 or 3 minute cooldowns were back up + last hunter's stampede. We now just need to become more accustomed to our strategy and more efficient. Hopefully that will ease the healing check in the last phase.

That's all I have for this week.
For the Horde!
